Sea-foam eyes opened. Observed the world. Too green, they said, flicking about the startling surroundings. It was true. Now that it was greenleaf, everything was so weird. She was used to living in a pale world ever since two seasons ago. Leafbare had come early that year and she had to quickly adapt to her surroundings or die trying. Many kits had died that leafbare, but she was determined the cold would never get to her Clan again. Hailstar got up from her damp nest and padded among the trees. She had left camp last night to get some peace and quiet. Left her deputy to take care of her Clan. She needed a moment.
This strange green world. Hailstar couldn't get over it. Everything used to be blanketed in snow until a few moons ago. Temperatures had climbed until the snow melted and they were left with a yellowed, damp world. Shortly after that, blossoms started blooming from the trees and Hailstar took more nights to herself outside than inside the camp. The blossoms became leaves and suddenly it was greenleaf where the prey was plentiful. But leaffall was approaching and with it leafbare. Not good. ShadowClan had to stuff itself before the cold season approached.
Hailstar stretched her legs, allowing each of her long limbs to embrace the warm morning air. She licked her lips and padded on, smelling the rare rabbit on the air. She raced forward as she spotted the brown tail and brought it down neatly. Her nostrils flared as she caught the scent of RiverClan. Stupid fish-eating idiots. They reeked so bad Hailstar thought about moving back to camp to eat. But it was too late. Some cat was approaching the border and Hailstar had no choice but to face them.
